Welcome to Reliance

Our composting operation was started out of our need for quality compost for use in our “Certified Organic” export tablegrape operation. No suitable compost could be sourced in a radius of 200km in the Paarl area and we decided to start our own production.

Several production methods were evaluated, but we decided to employ the help of the Lübke family from Austria and their pioneering Controlled Microbial Composting (CMC) method.

WHAT WE UP TO:

Since 1998 Reliance Compost produced compost on a small-scale for its own farming operations. This small-scale project soon developed into a competitive producer of compost. After successfully processing the green waste of CoCT, we were awarded a “Cleaner Cape Town Award” for our efforts and initiative. This led to an increase in drop-off facilities and exposure to recycling and sustainable environmental practices. These developments attracted attention from abroad and thus in April 2008 Reliance Compost. formed a joint venture with Soil & More International under the name Soil & More Reliance. From 2011 the South African shareholders reacquired the shares from Soil & More International, leaving Reliance with 100% ownership once more.
