WHAT WE DO
Composting - Reliance is a commercial producer of high quality composted products. We use an aerobic process of composting to enhance the microbial breakdown of green material. Our composting facility receives currently approximately 25 000m³ of chipped material per month intended for the production of various composted products.
Chipping/Shredding – Reliance is contracted by the City of Cape Town to process green material at the CoCT’s drop-off facilities. These chips are transported to our compost facility for processing to composted products. We currently use a variety of shredding machines and a horizontal grinder to process the green material.
Placing and removing of bulk waste skips – Reliance has a division called Atlantic Waste which use ro-ro trucks to place and remove skips at factories, building sites, shopping malls, schools, etc., in fact anywhere where bins are required for the removal of bulk waste removal. Clients can call us for once-off placing and removals or longer-term contracts. We currently have 10 trucks and a number of bins of various capacities to suit different client’s requirements.
Equipment sales – We import composting equipment like PTO –turners and self-propelled turners from European suppliers for sale to local, South Africa and the rest of Africa clients. Our experience in composting and conditions on the African continent makes us well-suited to suggest the appropriate equipment for big and small composting operations. We also import Toptex fleece. A geo-fabric made from continuous fibers that is specifically designed to be used in composting operations. The fabric is water-repellant, light-weight for easy handling and allows gasses to escape. Testing equipment suitable for composting operations can also be bought from us. We sell CO² and O² meters and their probes and also the replacement fluids, digital temperature meters and their probes (different lengths on request) and field testing kits for the following parameters: NO², NO³, NH4, pH (redox) and sulfide. It is the ideal test kit for a serious composter who does not have free access to laboratory facilities, but needs the information to manage the composting process. We also manufacture a 3m PTO turner in South Africa, well suited for grueling African conditions.
Compost extract systems – Many years ago, with the help of a micro-biologist we developed a compost extract system. Numerous systems in different volumetric sizes were and still are sold in South Africa and neighboring countries. These systems are easy to operate, robust, simple in construction and we make use of the best quality diffusers, ideal for optimum air dispensing. All parts are available from us.
Inoculants – We have our own laboratory where we test our own compost for process development and market readiness, quality control. We also manufacture inoculants to be used in composting. These inoculants are raw-product specific and were developed to boost the microbial activity when starting a new windrow. We sell five different strains in the inoculants range. Our range of laboratory products also includes trichoderma, anatagonist and EM-5.
Testing service – Our laboratory also conducts tests for clients. We do CMC –tests and biological cress tests on request.
Consulting service – Our experienced personnel have done many consultations for projects of various sizes and capacities. The biggest design project up till now was a 1000m³/day multi million Rand site for Pikitup, Johannesburg, which was undertaken as a joint venture with a consulting engineering firm. We do consultations for individuals and municipalities and has years of experience in processing bio-degradable waste products. We also do assessments on facilities that need modernization and processes that need changes. We also provide new designs on compost facilities, processes and advise on input materials and provide training. One of our personnel does assessments for a Dutch NGO, WAMASSA, which assist local municipalities in capacity building in their waste management efforts.
